I have always been academically motivated. I got a CGPA of 9.8 in 10th grade. I got 96% in 12th grade and was ranked 3rd in school and awarded prize money of Rs. 15000. I participated in the International Commerce Olympiad in class 11th, and secured 3rd rank in the same. In college, I pursued BCom Hons. and graduated with a CGPA of 7.8. I also participated in a stock-a-thon event which was organized by my college and secured the 2nd prize in the same.

I always embrace eagerly opportunities to learn and grow and do not shy away from challenges that need me to push my limits and exploit my full potential. Keeping an open mind and thinking outside of the box is important for entrepreneurs. I strongly believe that innovation and creativity are the results of an open mind, and I put my best efforts towards the implementation of this idea in my life.

I believe that a clear vision and focused objective are necessary to excel in any field. Faith and dedication to one’s vision are important for excellence. Companies don’t fail because of a lack of resources or capital but because of the lack of a clear vision. All successful entrepreneurs and personalities were successful because they had a clear vision and goal. That, I believe is a key component on the road to success. So, as long as one has their vision and goal nailed down, the path to success becomes clear. I have the utmost passion, dedication, and devotion toward my subject and I have a clear image and conviction of where I want to be in life and I consider that to be one of my greatest strengths.

The principle “Learn, Earn, Return” is something I abide by. I think it is very important to give back to the society. I involve myself in welfare projects as much as I can. I volunteered for the Rescue Operation for the children begging on the streets, which was a pilot initiative of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights - (NCPCR), Government of India. The Rescue Operation was carried out successfully, wherein, 12 children were rescued and presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for their successful rehabilitation. I consider my contribution to things like this, to be very important, as it helps me make a real impact in the world and gives me the satisfaction of knowing that my efforts are contributing to a good cause. I intend to keep this mentality throughout my life and give back to the world as much as I can and in all ways possible.

My contribution to my cohort will be the skills and experiences that I have gained through the opportunities that came my way and the ventures that I undertook. The work ethic that I have developed over the years and the insights that I have gained into the subject will help me share my unique learnings with my classmates.

Q2. Describe what you believe to be the most significant accomplishment or failure to date, explaining why you view it as such, and what have you learned from it. (Up to 500 words)

I come from a middle-class family, where money always played an important role in our lives. The importance of saving money was emphasized from as early as my childhood. There was very little awareness available about financial matters like investing money, the stock market, and managing personal and family finances well in general. Many middle-class families stay in the dark about very basic things that everyone must know about finance and I believe I broke out of that shell by developing a keen interest in money and finances at a young age and keeping myself updated and aware of the state of finances and money in our country.

Our education system does not do justice to financial and money management and most students pass out with little to no knowledge about things like taxes, generating a passive income, generating wealth, etc. This lack of knowledge puts many at a grave disadvantage and to this day, there are not many improvements in the quality of education that is imparted to students about money and finance. I have always been interested in the workings of money and wealth and I voluntarily took a step and gained knowledge on the stock market by reading books about it. I also attended various seminars that helped me gain knowledge of the workings of the stock market. My readings involved understanding the mindset of traders and their techniques.

The stock market is brushed off by many as just a gamble. From where I come from, it was even looked down on and frowned upon. I take pride in going beyond first glance and gathering a deeper understanding of the matter.

Limited knowledge is more dangerous than outright ignorance. I was aware of the risks that had to be taken. In today’s market scenario where only 1 percent of traders make money and 99 percent of traders lose money, I made sure I was as prepared as possible. I studied the workings of the stock market for hours and hours and developed an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the same. I took calculated risks that were backed by sufficient analysis and research done by myself. I invested money carefully and calculatedly and managed to generate good returns on a consistent basis. The hard work and the long hours that I put in enabled me to do this and I was able to do this with limited resources and a lack of guidance that I had. I had to put in twice as much effort and hours owing to the limited resources I had. What I did not have in resources, I made up for in sheer hard work and I believe that it has paid off in the end.

I am extremely proud of the fact that I was able to thoroughly dedicate myself to my passion despite of the backlash and discouragement and I am proud of the progress I have made. I consider this to be one of the greatest achievements of my life.

Q3. If you have anything else you want us to know about you, feel free to tell us here. You can also use this opportunity to tell us about your favorite book, movie, song, art, or sports moment and why it resonates with you. (Up to 300 words)

I would like to talk about the movie MS DHONI, which is a biopic of the former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It gives me the motivation to work towards my passion and pursue things that inspire me.

The movie features a scene where the protagonist (MS Dhoni himself) reaches a turning point in his life, and ends up making an extremely important life decision at that juncture. The scene shows him deciding to leave his job with the Indian Railways as a Ticket Checker and getting on a train with the decision to pursue his passion. He is shown to be taking a big risk and he ultimately decides that his passion is worth risking it all. This scene greatly inspires me and gives me hope, as it sends the message that one’s passion is always worth fighting for, no matter the odds or the stakes. And I would like to believe that I have implemented this as well as I can in my life.

I was also met with a lot of backlash and discouragement from the people around me when I first took up trading. But I stayed resilient and spent hours and hours understanding charts, drawing support and resistance on charts, using technical indicators, and understanding how prices move along with the volume of stocks. Despite all the demotivating factors and the odds that were stacked against me, I excelled in the stock market and got to a point where I could generate decent returns on my capital. The movie MS Dhoni resonates with me because it sends the message that it is okay to stand apart from the crowd and follow one’s heart if it feels right even if the path one is going to be taking is unconventional and new.

Q4. Why do you think you should be considered for a scholarship at BITSoM?(Upto 200 words)

I consider myself a suitable candidate for Scholarship Program because I am a determined student who will devote himself to efficiently taking advantage of the prospect that the scholarship will offer me. Having the belief that my passion for learning is fascinatingly allied with my desire to help others, not only do I excel as a student in my studies, but I also seek unique ways to see and connect with the material through real-world scenarios while constantly trying to improve the surrounding around me and make a difference somehow.

In addition, I organized study groups and strengthened my knowledge of the subject while helping fellow classmates to better understand the material.

I represent a potentially good return on your investment. I am passionate about finance and how it can be successfully implemented and managed with a strong understanding of both technical and real-world practices. Although I am very committed to undertaking training to fulfill my goals, the expensive cost of tuition and certification programs had held me back from taking them.

Receiving this scholarship will create a foundation for getting me closer to my goals of one day having a fruitful career as a financial consultant.
